There are two objectives that poker players have in mind when they initially begin to utilize online poker sites. The first is to play a game with less intensive risk where they can get a feel for the new establishment. The second goal is to lighten the risk on their bankrolls, at least until they are able to play a few hands and become more comfortable in the new setting.

More experienced players like to size up the action in the house as well as the other players before settling into the game and laying down their own money. One way to accomplish all of the objectives above, as the hosts at Absolute Poker know, is to join a FreeRoll tournament.

What is a Freeroll?

In poker, whether the dealing takes place online or within the confines of a traditional brick-and-mortar casino, a freeroll is a tournament with no entry fee. However, the prizes are as real as they would be in a tournament with a large entrance fee. Instead of funding the winners' prizes with a portion of the entrance fees, the house donates all the prize money to be awarded to winners of the tournament. Freerolls are usually open to new users of an online casino or to frequent players by invitation only.

Absolute Poker sponsors daily, weekly, monthly and seasonal freeroll events with relatively open access. It's possible to find a freeroll tournament running at Absolute Poker at virtually any time of the day or night, seven days a week.

Freerolls are among the strongest of attractions for new players, because a free seat in a poker tournament allows newcomers the chance to win real money and gain experience, but without putting their bankrolls at risk.

Freerolls for new Players and new depositors at Absolute Poker

First-time players, upon joining Absolute Poker, are automatically signed up for five freeroll tournaments, each with a $1,500 pot. Those tournaments are open only to new players, so they are the best place for people who are new to poker or new to playing online and who would like to become more comfortable with the game or the environment before they begin serious betting.

A $1,000 New Registration Freeroll happens every Sunday. The prize money is distributed among the top 63 finishers in the tournament. To enter the new registration freeroll, new players must qualify by placing in a New Registration Satellite tournament the day they join. The 200 top players in each satellite tournament advance to the New Registration Freeroll on Sunday.

A $3,000 New Depositors Freeroll happens every Sunday in addition to the two freeroll events listed above. The pool is distributed among the 63 top players in the tournament. The New Depositors Freeroll is open to anyone who has deposited funds at Absolute Poker during the previous week. However, participants must first qualify at a New Depositors Satellite tournament during the week in order to play on Sunday. The 200 top players in each satellite tournament advance to the New Depositors Freeroll on Sunday.

Ongoing freerolls at Absolute Poker

In addition to the freeroll tournaments for newcomers, the regular tournaments below are available to all players.

Top players are rewarded with a $1,000 freeroll that takes place every Sunday. Depending on the size and the stake, a different number of qualifiers from each type of tournament moves on to the freeroll.

From $5 buy-in tournaments, the six best competitors advance to freeroll competition. From each $10 tournament during the week, the nine best players advance.
