One way that a lot of players choose which web site to gamble at is by gauging how good the competition is. Playing against seasoned players will make it harder to make money, and in turn, playing against easier opponents will make it easier to make money. Using this strategy is an effective way to choose which website you will play poker at.

Low End Tables

When playing online poker, there are varying degrees of how much it costs to play at a certain table. Some tables may have small blinds as low as $.01 or as high as $500. Playing the low end table usually has less experienced players with a lower level of skill. At Cake Poker, this is the case. At the lower tables, you will find many very weak players that throw their money around like they seemingly don't understand how to play poker at all. These are very good tables to play if you know how to prey on loose players.

Mid Range Tables

At the mid tables ($5-$95 small blinds), you can usually find the same kinds of success. This is a good set of tables, depending on your personal skill level, to grind out a lot of money if you are a tight aggressive player. With a decent hand, you will have the ability to push many weak hands out of the pot even before the flop, taking what little money they've already given it. If you're smart about which hands you play, a lot of cash is available to win at Cake Poker's mid range tables. There are a few sharks though, so be careful when first entering a table. Get to know the players a little before jumping in.

High Stakes Tables

High Stakes tables are those with small blinds of over $100. As you can imagine, the level of play jumps considerably when you hit the high stakes tables. A good thing about the high stakes tables is that Cake Poker doesn't employ any in-house pros. There will usually be very few players at the high stakes tables, but the players that are there know what they're doing. They will offer a very high level of competition, and these tables are only for the serious poker player.

Bonuses

At Cake Poker, you will also receive bonuses for each hand in which you are dealt cards, so it is worth it to play many hands and test out the competition. They offer the Gold Stacks Rewards program, in which you will gain Frequent Player Points, or FPP's, every hand. For every dollar that is raked in, you will receive one FPP, accurate down to the penny. You don't even have to play the hand - as long as you're dealt in, you will still get the rewards. You will build FPP's into Gold Chips, which in turn create Gold Stacks. Gold Stacks are accumulated and turned into cash rewards.

With a specific number of Gold Stacks accumulated, you will increase your player level. Each level requires more Gold Stacks, and as you progress, the number of Gold Stacks needed to move up in level will increase. There are a maximum of 50 levels to be attained. There are cash bonuses for each Gold Stack, and for each level reached. Additionally the faster you reach a new level, the higher the bonus will be.

Overall, for the average online poker player, the Cake Poker player competition is pretty weak. There are more fish than sharks at most tables. As with most online poker sites, the further up the blind ladder you go, the harder the competition will get. The Gold Stack rewards program is also a nice incentive for staying in there and playing more hands, as you will be rewarded with cash bonuses.
