PKR is a poker site that has become very well known for their inventive 3D graphics and game play unavailable on other poker sites. Some people run less common operating systems such as Linux. Even with all of their technological advances, PKR unfortunately does not have a Linux compatible version. But those willing to do a little work can enjoy PKR's site to the fullest extent using the follow procedures.

Using Wine With PKR Poker

One option that has become fairly well known is a free application called Wine. Using Wine lets you run PKR's software seamlessly as if your computer was compatible. Some players may also like to run a program called slackware concurrently with Wine to further emulate windows programs.

The process for using Wine is easy. Simply download Wine, download the PKR software package and run the package through Wine. It may not always work perfectly, but with a little bit of debugging on your part, it should be up and running fairly quickly.

Sytem Requirements

PKR's site is fairly advanced in it's graphics and other areas of software. Fortunately for you, it has been made simple enough for your computer to understand for most computers that are four to five years old and newer. PKR's software does have some minimum and recommended system requirements though:

  • Processor speed - 1 Ghz required, 2 Ghz recommended
  • RAM - 512 Mb or higher
  • Hard Drive Space available - 900 Mb
  • Graphics Card - 32 Mb with DirectX 9.0c compatible drivers (Nvidia GeForce3 / ATi Radeo 8500) required, 128 Mb recommended
  • Soundcard - Any
  • Internet Connection - Broadband

There are many different versions of Wine and slackware software available, so you should visit their respective websites to ensure you get the correct version. If you have the wrong version, you may not be able to experience PKR's software to it's fullest extent - maybe not even at all.

With a little work on your part, you can play PKR poker with your Linux operating system. It will be easier to play with a Windows or Macintosh operating system, so you may want to consider just using those. PKR is a great site with many available games, tournaments and other things to experience, so don't miss out just because you're running Linux.
