Introduction to PKR Ubuntu
If you use a computer with an Ubuntu operating system, PKR's poker software will pose little problem for you to use. PKR uses advanced technology with 3D graphics and fully customizable avatars. PKR software was originally designed for use with Windows operating systems, and was soon adapted for Mac users. While there hasn't been an Ubuntu form of the software released yet, PKR has noted that there will be one in the future. In the meantime, however, there are simple solutions available to play poker at PKR with your Ubuntu operating system.
Wine
For an easy and popular solution, many will try the Wine application. Wine will allow your operating system to run Windows programs. When using Ubuntu and Wine concurrently, PKR should run seamlessly - just as it would normally. The process for this is very simple:
- Install Wine for Ubuntu from Wine's website
- Download PKR software
- Run the PKR software file through Wine
System Requirements
One nice thing about PKR's superior technology is that you do not need a brand new computer to run it. PKR will work with most computers newer than 2005 or 2006. There are some minimum requirements for PKR's online poker room to work correctly with your computer:
- Processor speed - 1 Ghz required, but 2 Ghz is recommended
- Memory - 512 Mb RAM
- Graphics Card - 32 Mb with DirectX 9.0c capabilities, 128 Mb recommended
- Hard Drive - 900 Mb of available space
- Internet Connection - Broadband
- Sound Card - Any
While this is enough to run the PKR site for Windows computers, those running the software through Wine may have higher or lower requirements to either run PKR or to run Wine itself. To find out if your computer meets the minimum requirements, visit Wine's site and check for their requirements. You should also make sure you have the correct, most up to date, version of Wine.
Most poker sites do not offer an Ubuntu-specific software version. This is unfortunate for PKR players, but luckily Ubuntu does have applications to help emulate Windows operating systems.
