PokerStars Player Competition - Opponent's Skill Level at Pokerstars
**** Do you want to play online poker and you are a US citizen, click here to sign up at BetOnline Poker. They accept US credit cards & eChecks. ****
When selecting an online poker site, many will choose one based on the level of competition among current players. It only makes sense that you will have an easier time making money against lesser skilled and inexperienced players than you would against players far superior in talent. At PokerStars, you will find that it does get tougher as the table limits increase. With hundreds of new inexperienced players at the low tables and some of the best pros in the world playing at the high stakes tables, there are tables for players of all skill levels.
Low Limit Tables
At the low limit tables (<$5 blinds), a decent online poker player can take full advantage of weaker players, or fish. While there will almost certainly be players better than you, most players will not waste their time playing low limit tables, where the pots are small. Some sharks (players preying on the fish) will grind out a daily living playing these low limit tables though, so watch out for them. Most would suggest playing these small tables until you are comfortable with online poker and its format and software.
Mid Level Limit Tables
As you progress in your skill level, you may want to try out the mid level tables ($5-$95 blinds) for a greater monetary reward, which comes along with a greater risk. Compared to other poker sites, the level of play both in ring tables and tournaments at PokerStars is generally weak in player quality in the mid level tables. This is due mainly to the vast popularity the site has gained through it's sponsorship of many professionals seen on TV poker programs. While it's not cheap advertising, with millions of poker players around the world watching the best compete on TV, it has been very effective marketing.
High Stakes Tables
The High Stakes Tables (>$100 blinds>) are for the serious players only. These tables are filled with some of the best online poker players in the world. Players that can not afford to lose large amounts of money should be urged to master thier online poker abilities before even attempting the high stakes rooms or tournaments. These rooms are filled with sharks and professionals - they are not for the average player. The players in this room know what they're doing, and will use their skills to take every penny you have without feeling guilty.
The list of well known professional poker players that play at PokerStars will amaze you:
- Chris Moneymaker
- Daniel Negreanu
- Joe Hachem
- Vanessa Rousso
- Bertrand Grospellier
- Greg Raymer
- Joe Cada
- Dario Minieri
- Barry Greenstein
- Humberto Brenes
As you can see, this is a reputable list of professionals. That's not all either - there are over 60 more online poker professionals logging onto the high stakes tables daily. These pros do this for a living, they know all the ins and outs of online poker. Be very careful in the high stakes rooms and tournaments.
In general, Pokerstars player competition is fairly weak, that is, until you reach the high stakes tables, where the competition is unparalleled. Playing weak to mid level tables efficiently can yield promising figures in your bank account.
