More and more poker sites are beginning to understand the demand for Linux-compatible online poker software. UB is no different, and they've developed an Instant Play version of their software that supports the Mac, Windows, and Linux operating systems. Although UB's Instant Play software is missing a few nice features when compared to their downloadable Windows software, it provides a comprehensive poker experience that will satisfy most any Linux user's hunger for competitive, online poker.

Using Ultimate Bet Instant Play on Linux

So long as you have a web browser, using Ultimate Bet on a Linux machine is incredibly easy. You won't have to download a single thing.

  1. Direct your web browser to UltimateBet.com
  2. Click on the Download button found in the top menu of the main page. Don't worry, no downloads will actually be necessary.
  3. The UB site should automatically recognize that you're using Linux. Click the Instant Play link found on the page that appears.
  4. After a moment, the Ultimate Bet lobby will appear.
  5. You're now ready to play UB No Download.

From the UB lobby, you can navigate to the various cash games and tournaments, access the Cashier and browse the current promotions available through the site.

Ultimate Bet Linux Game Types

All of the same game types available through UB's downloadable software can also be found in the Linux-compatible Instant Play version of Ultimate Bet. These game types include:

  • Texas Hold'em
  • Omaha Hi Lo
  • Omaha
  • 7 Card Stud
  • 7 Card Stud Hi Lo
  • HORSE
  • HOSE
  • Razz

Any of these game types can be played as cash games at Ultimate Bet with the Linux OS. However, tournament players will find that only Texas Hold 'em tournaments are available with the Instant Play version of the UB software. Mixed Game, Omaha and Stud tournaments are only available through the downloadable Windows UB software.

Differences Between UB Linux and the Downloadable UB Software

There are a few limitations and advantages when using UB Instant Play for Linux. First, you won't have access to some of the bells and whistles that come with the downloadable software like alternate table views, advanced dealer options, 20-table multi-tabling, hot key options or cascading and tiling. However, you do have the benefit of being able to play Ultimate Bet on any computer you might be using. Also, there is no waiting for a download to finish or wasting precious system resources on an extra piece of software.

Ultimate Bet has done a wonderful job of creating a slick real money poker program that works with the Linux operating system. Linux users finally have a way of enjoying online poker without sacrificing the operating system that they know and love.
